A great walk around video from Arctic Cat’s Trenton Munsell and Ben White of the 2023 Alterra 600 Mud Pro.

2023 ALTERRA 600 MUD PRO AND WHY YOU SHOULD BUY

A Mud Pro has always been built to be competitive off the showroom floor and this Alterra leads it’s class with 12.8-inches of ground clearance and big 28-inch Maxxis Zilla tires wrapped around stylized 14-inch wheels.  The 6-ply-rated radial construction has both superb mud traction and outstanding trail riding performance, offering a winning combination that is light and fast.

Just in case you get stuck, a standard 3,500lb WARN winch with handlebar-mounted control, will help pull you out.

But that combo won’t get you anywhere if mud and water clog your radiator or get ingested through your engine. Arctic Cat engineers relocated the radiator to the top of the front bodywork and incorporated an elevated intake and clutch snorkel system to keep your engine staying cool and CVT drive belt dry. Engine EFI calibration was tuned in conjunction with the lower gearing, clutching and snorkeled intake to provide pulse-racing throttle response.

Previous generations of Mud Pro lacked the radiator relocation to the upper front bodywork area. Mud Pro owners should be happy with this evolution. Not only relocated, but the cover is stylized to compliment the good looks of Alterra bodywork and is semi-protected by a color-complimenting front bumper.

Class-leading power comes from an equally new engine built at Arctic Cat’s world class facility in Minnesota. The 45-hp, 600cc, single-cylinder EFI engine has a lighter weight, more precisely balanced crankshaft to reduce vibration and quick engine response.

Alterra bodywork is an eye-catching Quicksilver with Skye blue accents, which challenges design innovation with narrow styling, enhanced bodylines and simplistic snap-fit body panels to gain quick access to the engine compartment.

One of my favorite parts of the new Alterra models are the well-thought body panels and easy access to all things mechanical. The cockpit of any Alterra is narrow, freeing up space for leg and foot maneuverability during spirited rides.

A low center of gravity for the rider is an evolution of Arctic Cat’s trademark ride-in performance and bodywork and color-matched seat design are narrow where it counts throughout the cockpit – Your knees, legs and hips will thank you after a full day of mud-maneuvering. Spacious floorboards with integrated foot peg design provide the freedom for your feet to dance, but remain in constant feel with the Mud Pro chassis.

Taking a cue from the snowmobile side of the business, Arctic Cat redesigned the steering system on the Mud Pro (And Black Hills Edition) with a T-style handlebar post, adjustable riser and flat bend handlebars with hooked ends and thin grips for fatigue-free riding. This is a welcome upgrade, and one I wish were on every Alterra 600 for the future.
The stylized overmolded rear rack on the Mud Pro has a 200lb capacity and compliments the Alterra bodywork nicely.

The double a-arm front and rear suspension geometry, boast 8.75-inches of travel, and the high clearance lower a-arm designs are positioned on the chassis for the ultimate in additional ground clearance, precise handling and peace of mind when the bogging gets bottomless.

Typically sold through aftermarket companies, Arctic Cat opted for high clearance front and rear bottom A-arms. This photo provides a good look at the rear along with standard 2-inch rear receiver.
