9:45 am, Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, in what is often referred to as the “ZR Shop,” deep within Arctic Cat’s snowmobile engineering department.

L-to-R: Ken Fredrickson, Andy Beavis, Brian Dick and Jon Edwards… Four key Arctic Cat engineers, grant my request to pose for a moment with two prototype ProCross-chassis snowmobiles.

On the left, a Suzuki 1100 4-stroke engine. On the right, a 800cc 2-stroke laydown Suzuki mill.

Although barely skeletons at this point, the two machines will soon become running prototypes in the development of the ProCross and ProClimb machines that will launch to the public in little more than two years after this shot was taken, heralding another new era in snowmobile history.
