Hey John, without any confidential dealer info, how many new sleds does a high volume dealer sell in a year?? Ballpark is fine.
Brian- The dealers listed here aren’t necessarily “high volume,” rather they have done one/some of the following: sold more sleds than the goal set by Arctic Cat/dealer; increased market share for Arctic Cat in their respective area; sold more parts/accessories/clothing than the goals set for them. I’m not sure if there is consensus about what a “high volume” dealer is. Achieving any one of these goals is great, and I congratulate any dealer that did so. I also know know several dealers not on this list, but that are excellent (a few of whom are regular posters/supporters on this site). My criteria for “excellent” has more to do with parts/clothing inventory, service expertise, customer service and whether or not they serve good popcorn during Open House events, rather than how many sleds they sell.
Interesting to see the top NY dealers and their locations.
Ok John, I agree with what you are saying. I consider my dealer excellent, they treat me very good. They sold 8 new 2010 sleds. I know 8 is low but that is good this far south, in a small town. I was just wondering what a high number was, 100+, more??? When I said “high volume” I meant high numbers of new sleds. I am just curious.
I personally know a dealer that closed 2 Arctic Cat dealerships because a chain hunting and fishing store was selling ATV’s in his area. Bigger is not always better, I know that for sure.
I’m not sure about Arctic Cat, but some OEM’s sales numbers are based on unit numbers moved to dealer and paid for. This meaning, paid cash by the dealer or put on “Floor Plan” financing program. So…. units can be sitting unsold to customers at dealers, but for OEM accounting purposes the unit is “Sold”. Pretty confusing to me. One local old line Cat dealer told me that it announced at Cat Dealer Meeting… That the “Reccession” is over and dealers are being asked to step up for 2011. Looking at the number of unsold units, Sled and ATV sitting in rural NY dealerships….. Hard to believe Cat isn’t waiting another year before putting increased order numbers on dealers shoulders to qualify for best programs. Then I look at the number of Cat Dealers in a 50 mile radius of my home and wonder if it’s time to thin the herd? I’m not proud that I ended up buying my Cat at a newer “Big Box” dealer, rather than an “Old Line” shop or my friend’s “Medium Box” store. $100 or even $200 wouldn’t have swayed me, but $1100 couldn’t be ignored in this economy. I’m not excited to see how the next few years play out for powersports industry dealers
Don’t know why K&S Arctic Cat here in St. Anthony, Newfoundland is not in the “Circle of Excellence”. For the size of town (2600 ppl) they sell over 100 sleds every year
In my opinion just by the three dealers that I am familiar with here in Mn/Wi: Ken’s Sports,RV Sports and Country Cat it looks like Arctic Cat is picking dealers that they cater too by giving them special deals on “salvage machines” and all of the non current parts/accessories that other dealers do not have a chance of getting for an example normaly a dealer can get 1 salvage sled per 10 new current sleds they buy but in the case of the three dealers I listed they seem to get way more salvage unitsand loads of non current parts/acc./clothing than they have new.I know for a fact this is just some of the issues that dealers have with Arctic Cat and that is why we are seeing so many dealers going under, another example:local dealer still had 07’s and 08’s last season (08/09) that where not salvage units and other dealers not far from the twin city’s had the same 07 & 08 model sleds that where $2000-$3000 less, now who looks like the a?? when they have had these sleds since that model year and have taken all of the rebates that Cat has offeredand still can not compete with these other dealers whoring them out the door, come on Arctic Cat make it an even playing feild and stop giving specail treatment to “specail dealers”.
Leading edge is who i buy from, they are definitly wothy of the top dealer award IMO.
Jason and his staff look after you.
After buying my m8 turbo off of leading edge in Kamloops..there was no doubt in my mind that they were the cat dealer to go to..They know there cats..A wise decision on making them the dealer of the year in Canada..I know i will be buying many more cats from Jason and and the boys…well done guys…
Well written Scott W.
That’s all I have to say about that….
Scott W., you do see to have a lot of examples, but do you think it is possible that AC, as you put it, caters to select dealers because they produce for them and meet or exceed expectations?
I have personally dealt with Country Cat on several occasions, and I will tell you, I have not met a more cordial group of people, family run business and they treat every customer as a friend. They have a great display area for clothing and sleds/atv’s INSIDE, which many dealers do not. Their service area is top notch as well.
I dont think its fair that you single out dealers like that because your favorite dealer may not get the opportunity others do. There are a lot of great dealers out there. I have several within 25 miles of me, but I CHOOSE to drive 45 miles to Country Cat because of everything I mentioned above. I am sure you feel the same about your dealership.
But, just because you feel they are great, doesnt mean they are meeting expectations is all I am saying. Just like in any job, you get rewarded for exceeding expecations. Who would work hard if they got the same raise as everyone else that worked twice as hard as they did?
It’s called an incentive.
Not mentioning no names here, but 2004 Cat Dlr of the yr still continues to sell sleds at an unbelievable rate, especially considering the state of economy Michigan is in, a few yrs back a guy from Wasilla, AK flew an employee down to Chicago to pick up a new truck for company and paid addt’l mileage and such to have him pick up a leftover 2005 ZR9 SnoPro, all due to this dealers pricing vs nationwide prices
Owner said the other day that his MY 2011 F8 H.O. LTD’s are literally flying out the doors and that he last recalls approx 1997 as the last season same MY sleds sold like this
Myself,, i’ve personally bought 8 cats from them myself over the yrs due to their friendliness and consideration, not to mention their “service for the customer” when it comes to their parts dept and having it either in stock or within 2 days
